Tech Tuesdays and Faculty Inspiration

For this Blog, I want you all to react to Tech Tuesdays and the technology we are sharing with the faculty/staff and students. Offer input on how you think the first two sessions went, what you got out of them, what you think the folks who attended got, and how effective the sessions were (try to address them individually). Also add a thought about your future session if you haven't presented yet and how you can best prepare and relate to faculty and students. Add any thoughts about the process and the product as you've seen it so far! Please blog by Monday March 27th at midnight and then respond by Friday March 31st at midnight.

  1. I think the first two tech tuesdays have gone great so far! I believe since we are really reaching out that they are not only for education majors a lot more folks are coming to learn!
Peyton's talk on notability set us off on a good note because we were able to show off such a useful tool for college students and college professors. Those who attended were able to get a taste of what a great app that will be able to use next year hopefully when Westmo goes one to one.
Ashley's discussion on nearpod was also really helpful for college students and professors because they are able to use it for their different presentations that you have to do. It spices up from the regular powerpoints we all see.
For my session, I hope it goes as well as Ashley's and Peyton's went. I am really excited to share a great app or website with the campus that can truly help everyone become better learners and more engaged in their classrooms. If it is possible have like different applications for the app that specifically caters to the different majors who are present in the room on your presentation day will most likely get the faculty engaged.

    1. I agree that the first two sessions have gone great! I also like your idea to have different applications that specifically cater to the different majors. The more people feel like the tool relates to them and that it can be used in their field the more likely they will be to use the tool!

  2. 1. Offer input on how you think the first two sessions went,
I think that the tech Tuesday events have been really useful so far, I had never been to a tech Tuesday event until I was in this class, so I don't have anything to compare it to, but I feel that they have been good. I believe that we have had more attendance from staff as Dr. Bum mentioned that before it was mostly just education students that attended the event. I think that there is more motivation from the staff members to learn about technology seeing as we may be going 1:1 soon.
    2. what you got out of them,
I have really enjoyed the events and I have learnt a lot I will definitely be using both apps.
When I look at how things went from the perspective of my role in the marketing team, I think that we are learning as we go. In the beginning we had some troubles with marketing in terms of logistics with posters and emails; I think we have defiantly learnt a lot in the process. I hope that as we get better with advertising we will get more people to attend.
Overall I think that both tech Tuesday events went really well, we presented some useful apps and Peyton and Ashley were very brave to have gone first!!
    3. what you think the folks who attended got,
I think that everyone that attended the sessions was able to gain something. I think that a good way of seeing what people gained form the session is to listen to the question and answer part because it shows how interested people were. For both presentations we have had so far there were many useful questions asked. For notability I think that people were intrigued, Peyton did a great job to convince everyone on how useful notability is and how it does not take away from traditional hand written notes. For the presentation on Notepad it seemed that the staff members were very interested, and I think everyone loved the virtual reality tour! Ashley did a great job to show how many different uses notepad has!
    4. and how effective the sessions were
I believe that sessions were very effective because the apps that we were presenting have so many uses; I think that the only drawback is that we have not gone 1:1 yet and it’s sometimes hard for some people to see the use of the apps. In addition another problem is people not bringing a device to the presentation so they cannot join in with exploring the app when we are presenting.
Overall I think that the apps are very useful, notability is great for taking notes, having all your data saved in one place and it is environmentally friendly. Notepad is great for professors as it changes the way that they can lecture and it will help student if they have to make a presentation.
    5. Also add a thought about your future session if you haven't presented yet and how you can best prepare and relate to faculty and students. Add any thoughts about the process and the product as you've seen it so far!
I am nervous for my presentation; I’m glad that I will be doing it with Maddie, which will be less intimidating. We know that we are presenting on QR codes and we still have to pick something else to present on. I think that QR codes are very useful for students and staff, and they are fun. QR codes have a wide range of uses, there great for advertising, they can be used to send event reminders, and you can use them to give your students an answer sheet and many more.
As long prepare well and we practice, we will be fine! I think that the hardest part is going to be the questions at the end because you can’t prepare for that.

    1. I completely agree! I am so nervous to but like you said as long as we are prepared and know what we are doing we will be fine! I also agree it would be a big help if everyone in attendance of tech Tuesday had a device to follow along.

    2. You have a lot of great points Meghan. I think we are all doing a great job of getting more and more of the campus informed about Tech Tuesdays and its proven by how many people we are getting to come in!

  3. I feel that the first tec Tuesday's went pretty well, especially by the second one because we were really able to get the word out and we were able to reach more people. I felt that my presentation was able to show students and professors a different way for the students to take notes and interact in the class. Ashley's presentation was great because it showed the professors that were there that they can still control a classroom even though their students are using a device.

Overall I believe that these sessions have been great for potentially moving the minds of the professors and students toward the way of 1:1. We are showing them all of the cool things that they can do that they may not be able to do without technology.

    1. Peyton, I liked how you pointed out that the professors will still have some control if they allow their students to use a device. I think that a lot of professors and teachers have a giant fear of using devices for that reason in particular. Nearpod is really cool and applicable and I believe everyone benefited from learning more about it.

    2. I agree with what you said and that it is good people are realizing they need to be more knowledgeable about technology.

  4. I really think tech Tuesday has been successful thus far I really noticed a turnout increase from the first one to the second one! Notablity I feel has been beneficial to me as I am trying to take all my notes in there now so they are all in the same place. I also think many of the faculty liked Ashley's presentation and I think that some of the faulty is nervous to go 1:1 but are easy to learn. Megahn and I are presenting QR codes along with something else. I think QR codes will be super beneficial to both faculty and students! I a very nervous to presnt tho.

    1. I have seen a few QR codes around campus from some other groups and I truly think that getting some of the professors in on it will truly make our campus better!I know a lot of students still are not completely sure what they are so your talk will help those.

  5. I think that the Tech Tuesday sessions have been going well. There has been great attendance and the students and staff that have been attending seem to actually be very interested in the tech tools we are presenting on. I think it also is cool to have the live feeds. The live feeds reach out the those who are not in attendance but also it helps show the ones who are there how technology can be used in the classroom. I think for future sessions we should reiterate that these tools are not just for education students/ the department. The more these tools are shown as universal the more they will be used and encouraged.

    1. I liked how you pointed out to reiterate that these are not just for education majors and that they are universal. Some people I talk to still think that this is just for education when in reality everyone could be using these tools!

    2. I agree that we should reiterate that these tools are not just for the education student/department. I have told other to come to tech Tuesday and they automatically respond by saying it is just for the education department. I think the email and flyers we put up make it seem like tech Tuesday is only for the education department.

    3. I agree I think the live feeds are good especially if people know about them and are watching them. I think people are realizing they are more universal and interested in learning the tools we present!

  6. Tech Tuesday has been good so far. I think the students have been interested and so have the faculty because the things presented are tools both could use. People seeing how they are used and having the demonstrations may make them more confident to try new things. I think as long as we have apps that are beneficial to our students, more will come and students seem to be doing a pretty good job on getting the word out. I like how there have been questions asked in mine and Peyton's presentations. It shows that they are intrigued by what we are showing and want to learn more!

    1. Ashley, I liked how you pointed out that viewers have asked questions! I think everyone has been truly engaged and interested and all want to learn more about what we have been presenting. So clearly, we are doing the right thing!

  7. I have not actually been able to be at the Tech Tuesdays because of my RA class. However, I think that the Tech Tuesday sessions have been going well by what I have heard from you all and the live videos I watched. When I watched, there seemed to be students and faculty there that were very engaged to the presenter. I think that we should publicize the live feeds more on campus. I have seen many students watch other live feeds for other organizations on campus and I think they would do the same for tech Tuesday if they knew more about it. We could make it more known on the flyers we put up and make announcements in meetings with organizations we are involved in on campus that tech Tuesday can be watch on the live feed of Twitter and Facebook. This is such a great way to get students to tune in when they aren't able to fit this in their schedule.

    1. I liked how you pointed out that a lot of students can and might watch through the live feeds if they are not able to attend during the actual Tech Tuesday times. That is something I sometimes forget about because I am always there with the food haha! But it truly is an added bonus in case there is another event on campus.
