Blog #3 Peer Teaching and QR Codes

Tuesday you all saw the last of the peer presentations on Tech Tools (Kelsey) and then shared potential uses of QR Codes. Now that you've seen what QR Codes can do and you've signed up to lead Tech Tuesday sessions, what are your thoughts on the tools you think would be best to demonstrate for students and faculty (are QR codes one of them? Or are you thinking there are more important tools to teach)? Each of you come up with 3-5 potential tech tools YOU think are worthy of a Tech Tuesday. If someone steals yours before you post it, pick something new!

Post by Tuesday, Feb. 14 and respond to classmates by Friday, Feb. 17.

  1. I think almost all of the tech tools can be incorporated in some way but the ones that I think for sure should be presented are Quizlet, to show off the quizlet live, and Edpuzzle. One that was not presented but was shown to me by a professor is Desmos, it can be used for a lot of things but it has an online scientific calculator but it does a lot with graphs and functions. This is something that I believe the math and science departments can find use for in their classrooms.

    1. I agree Desmos sounds like it could be very helpful in the math content area and allows for students to have another tool available to them.

    2. I agree with all of these tools. For Desmos is this free? If so I definitely think this tool should be shared! Yes, math and science departments will use this tool a lot, but the psychology department and business department could as well. Also, unless there are special cases or a student transfers in credits, every student has to take a math class, mostly statistics or calculus so this tool would help all students!

    3. I had never heard of Desmos, but it sounds really useful! I also agree that we should present Quizlet and do a Quizlet live at one of the Tech Tuesdays, I think it would be exciting for everyone and hopefully encourage some professors to use it in the classroom

    1. I agree with all of the apps you suggested Maddie, I looked at the Adobe Spark website and it looks amazing, I think it could be so useful for many departments at Westminster. I think it would be really useful for advertising campus events, and it looks like its FREE!

  4. I think that Educreations would be a great app to do for tech-Tuesdays. It is a great way of sharing videos and teachers can all a voice over. Great for hybrid or online classes. I also like the look of Poplet, which I learnt about in our book Amplify. it is used for creating concept maps. I also really liked Kelsey's lesson on Plicker I think that they would be really useful and FUN in our college classes. I think that other apps that allow students to be creative would be useful, like Museum-Box.

  5. I think that QR codes are a must. As technology is moving forward they are being used more and for various things. For teachers, I think that Classdojo would be handy for them to learn how to use. For students and teachers museum box could be a cool tool that either could use in multiple facets. Flipboard would be cool for teachers, education students, and even students who are not education majors. This app is really cool and could be used in multiple grade levels, content areas, and majors. For more of a quiz type of tool I agree that quizlet live is an awesome tool. Most students here already know about quizlet, and if they don't we could demonstrate that too, but I don't think most know about quizlet live. We could be saving a lot of student's lives, haha, and help increase grades/test scores.

    1. I agree with you that I think a lot of students have heard of these apps or tools before but they do not know how to use them to their full potential yet.

    2. I agree with both of you :) I think that a lot of teachers are a bit nervous to implement a new technology into their classrooms. I think we need to show them how to use the technology and practice using it. We also have to show them that they don't have to be the experts they could le their students teach each other how to use the apps

    3. Classdojo does seem handy and something educators will want to use. I think you're right about quizlet live because I had never heard of it until the tech demos!

  6. I do think QR codes are important and could be used for a demonstration. They are useful for a variety of things especially now that I have learned more about them. Adobe spark has been one of my favorites to use. I also think Explain Everything and Little Bird Tales would be good for teachers and students to learn how to use. Another tool I really liked was GoFormative.

  8. I think QR codes are always a good choice just because they are so interesting and used so often. However, I know you have said that they have been used at Tech Tuesdays before. Some TechTools that I think would be great to teach at a Tech Tuesday are:
    1. Plickers
    2. Google Hangout
    3. Blabberize
    4. Twitter
    5. GoTo Meeting

    1. I am really excited to hear about GoTo Meeting at your Tech Tuesday presentation. I would love to hear more about what it is and how I could use in the classroom or to help me for the rest of my college career here at Westminster.
